Parents Sue Houston ISD for Participating in Social Transitioning Their Daughter

Terry and Sarah Osborn, parents of a high school student, filed a lawsuit against Houston ISD last week after learning that over six Bellaire High School employees referred to their daughter with masculine pronouns and the girl’s preferred male name.

The social transitioning began when the girl was in ninth grade and a teacher handed out a worksheet that asked the class for their preferred pronouns. Despite receiving explicit instructions from her parents, teachers began secretly calling the Osborn’s daughter by her preferred male name and he/him pronouns. This went on for almost two years.

After learning that teachers were calling their daughter by the wrong pronouns, the Osborns formally requested that they stop. These requests fell on deaf ears. The principal then tried to compromise with the parents, offering to have teachers call her by her last name only, to avoid using pronouns. They rejected this compromise and again instructed the school to call their daughter by her name and female pronouns.

The Osborns requested employee communications regarding their daughter, HISD’s policies on the use of preferred names and pronouns, and documentation related to the student’s counseling sessions over the years. HISD’s attorney claimed they could not provide this information. The Osborns and their attorney viewed the school’s unwillingness to cooperate as telling of the school’s treatment of the girl, carried out without parental consent and in direct opposition to their instructions.

Protecting Texas Children believes parents have the right to raise and educate their children in truth and love. The actions of HISD directly oppose truth and parental rights. We stand with the Osborns and support their pursuit of justice for their daughter and other victims of gender ideology perpetrated by school employees.

Governor Abbott Signs Bill Into Law to Support the Health of Detransitioners

Last week, Governor Abbot signed SB 1257 into law, a landmark step in protecting the mental and physical health of detransitioners in Texas. This legislation ensures access to informed medical care, transparency, and legal recourse for individuals who regret their gender transition procedures.

It requires health insurance coverage for detransitioners. PTC President Vanessa Sivadge testified in Austin on behalf of a similar bill during the legislative session. While that bill failed, this bill ensures that detransitioners receive quality medical care and aid from insurance companies.

SB 1257 marks a crucial shift toward accountability and support for those navigating the complex journey of returning to their God given birth identity. Protecting Texas Children applauds our Governor for signing this crucial legislation into law.
