Abbott’s Special Session Agenda Includes PTC Priorities

Last week, Gov. Greg Abbott released the agenda for the first special session, which includes banning chemical abortions and protecting sex-segregated spaces for girls and women. Both items are critical safeguards for both child safety and female privacy.

Protecting Texas Children released a statement praising Gov. Abbott for calling a special session to pass legislation that aims to protect women, children, and unborn babies. PTC President Vanessa Sivadge thanked him for always safeguarding the most vulnerable Texans.

The session will begin on July 21 and last 30 days. Regarding the measures, Vanessa has stated, “These are basic, common-sense protections that the vast majority of Texans support.” PTC believes that no child should be denied the right to live, and no girl should be forced to give up her privacy and dignity in places meant to keep her safe.

Protecting Texas Children fights for policies that are pro-family and pro-life and stand for principles that are right and just. PTC is thankful to the Governor and will be watching the legislators to ensure these policies pass.

PTC President Speaks at Federal Trade Commission Workshop to Determine the Dangers of “Gender Affirming Care” for Minors

Last week, the Federal Trade Commission hosted a workshop to determine whether consumers have been subjected to misleading or unsubstantiated claims about “gender-affirming care.” An article from the Christian Post stated that the agency has issued more than 20 subpoenas against clinics that are engaged in transgender medical procedures on children.

According to the New York Times, the Biden administration pressured the World Professional  Association for Transgender Health to remove minimum age requirements for cross-sex hormones and other sex change procedures from their guidelines, presumably for political reasons.

The workshop featured 33 guest speakers, who shared their experiences and expertise about how the absence of guidelines and restrictions have led to abuse and irreparable harm to vulnerable young people. Medical ethicists, physicians, whistleblowers, parents, and survivors of transgender procedures from varying political backgrounds spoke during the workshop.

PTC President Vanessa Sivadge took the podium to share her story, reminding the panel that gender affirming care is “not rooted in rigorous science, nor is it grounded in ethical medical practice. It is a marketing campaign masquerading as healthcare. It is a billion-dollar industry that thrives on misleading claims, emotional manipulation, and the systematic erasure of informed consent.”

Although the precise next steps of the FTC are unknown, Commissioner Mark Meador committed to further study of the issue. He stated that parents should have all available data about gender-affirming procedures before making such a life-altering decision.
