Sara Beth Nolan, the legal counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom, testified in favor of SB 7, the Texas Women’s Privacy Act.
During her testimony, she told the story of a young woman who was continually sexually harassed in school because she was forced to share private spaces with biological men. Men are invading their private spaces, and they are being threatened and harmed. Girls should be allowed to go to school and receive an education without having their safety threatened.
She shares a story about a women’s shelter that serves women who are victims of domestic violence and sex trafficking. A man, claiming to be a woman, attempted to receive care at this shelter. His presence would have threatened the women already there. Women were sleeping on cots just an arm’s length apart. So the center decided they could not endanger the women they were supporting and opted to help the man find assistance elsewhere. After this, the shelter had complaints filed against it, threatening its ability to keep its doors open.
The Texas Women’s Privacy Act must pass. Women and young girls deserve better. They deserve to have their privacy and dignity protected in places where they are most vulnerable. They should not be threatened simply because a man thinks he is a woman when he is not. This bill is not about politics, it’s about protecting girls. Protecting Texas Children supports SB 7, the Texas Women’s Privacy Act, and we will continue to fight to protect women and young girls.
