Texas Bolsters Women’s Privacy with New Law

September 2, 2025

The Women’s Privacy Act Passes

Despite faltering during this year’s regular session, the Women’s Privacy Act passed the Texas House in the closing weeks of the special session with a vote of 86-45. Lawmakers have tried six times over the past five sessions to pass a bill like this, and this year, Texas parents and children finally won the protection they deserve.

The Women’s Privacy Act requires individuals to use private spaces according to their biological sex rather than their preferred gender identity. Covered spaces include restrooms, locker rooms, changing rooms, shower rooms, family violence shelters, correctional facilities, and sleeping quarters. Violations will carry a $25,000 penalty for the first offense and $125,000 for repeat violations, giving Texas one of the nation’s toughest protections for women’s safety and privacy.

The Texas Women’s Privacy Act was one of Protecting Texas Children’s top priorities this session. We firmly believe this law will protect young women and girls from threats in spaces where their safety should never be in question. We commend Senator Mayes Middleton for authoring this bill and are grateful for the Texas House members who stood firm to get it across the finish line.

This is a victory for parents, for daughters, and for every Texan who believes truth and biology—not ideology—must govern our private spaces.
